Women Chamber Delegation Meets Commerce Minister

Islamabad (TDI): A delegation from the Islamabad Women Chamber of Commerce & Industry (IWCCI), led by Founder President Samina Fazil, met with Federal Minister for Commerce, Jam Kamal Khan.

They discussed strategies focused on women’s empowerment and boosting export growth.

 

The meeting highlighted key concerns of women entrepreneurs, with the IWCCI delegation advocating for greater inclusion of women-owned businesses in trade delegations and international trade fairs.

 

They also requested representation of women leaders on decision-making boards, such as the Export Development Fund (EDF), and sought land allocation for a dedicated facility for women entrepreneurs.

The Minister expressed the government’s strong commitment to supporting women entrepreneurs, especially those involved in export-related ventures.

He emphasized the importance of actionable proposals and urged the chamber to submit detailed projects aimed at increasing women’s participation in commerce.

 

Jam Kamal assured the delegation that the Ministry of Commerce would support these initiatives through EDF.

The discussion also covered the government’s plans to expedite the issuance of pending licenses for women’s chambers, with particular attention to organizing a women-led business exhibition in Kenya.

 

The Minister outlined the potential of strengthening the Women Exporters Network (WEXNET). It fosters collaboration and growth opportunities for women in trade.

To further empower women entrepreneurs, Jam Kamal Khan proposed that the chamber identify global exhibitions they wish to participate in.

He assured that the Trade Development Authority of Pakistan (TDAP) would provide support to ensure their presence at these events.

 

Additionally, The Minister suggested that IWCCI write a formal request to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif regarding land allotment from the Capital Development Authority (CDI) for the chamber’s headquarters in Islamabad.

 

Jam Kamal Khan promised to take up the matter with the Prime Minister.

 

The meeting ended with a focus on capacity building and branding strategies for women entrepreneurs. The Minister encouraged the chamber to submit proposals that would equip their members with the right tools to succeed.
