Vietnamese Deputy Foreign Minister addresses the ACCWG-PHE

Hanoi, 27 September 2021 (TDI): Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam, Nguyen Quoc Dung, on behalf of the Vietnamese delegation, addressed the 7th online meeting of the ASEAN Coordinating Council Working Group on Public Health Emergencies (ACCWG-PHE).

While addressing the meeting, he praised the progress of ASEAN measures in dealing with Covid-19.

He urged the association to buy more vaccines for members states. He also stressed supporting voluntarily vaccine sharing to lessen the regional vaccination gap and assist countries that are in dire need of vaccines.

Nguyen also suggested that regional states should add more efforts to the ASEAN COVID Response Fund and the ASEAN Regional Reserve of Medical Supplies (RRMS). He told the participants that Vietnam is near to finish the domestic process to declare a list of donations to the regional preserves of medical supplies.

He also mentioned that Vietnam is working effectively with other members of ASEAN to get the ASEAN Centre for Public Health Emergencies and Emerging Diseases (ACPHEED) into some successful operations.

Besides this, he advised everyone in the meeting to continue focusing on economic recoveries and reduce the negative impacts on the people of the region.

By the end of the meeting, all participants agreed that ASEAN will provide around 100,000 – 250,000 doses of vaccines to each member state.

The first batch is expected to be delivered at the end of this year and the second batch at the start of 2022.

The participants also recommended that the leaders of the association should avail the ASEAN Travel Corridor Arrangement Framework (ATCAF) and keep considering the potential of a “vaccine passport.”
