US State Secretary will visit Thailand

Bangkok, 9 December 2021 (TDI): US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken will visit Thailand next week. This will be the first-ever visit of Blinken to the Southeast Asian country after his appointment.

US State Secretary will stay in the Kingdom of Thailand for 2 days from 15 to 16 December to hold bilateral meetings with key officials. He will be hosted by the Minister of the Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom, Don Pramudwinai.

During the official visit, Secretary Blinken will meet General Prayut Chan-o-cha, Prime Minister of Thailand. The visit will also allow him to hold talks with Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai.

They will discuss bilateral matters and politics in Southeast Asia. US and Thailand will get the opportunity to enhance alliance and strategic partnership through the visit.

The two countries also seek to promote cooperation in the areas of mutual interest of both countries. Earlier, US Secretary also joined members of the Thai private sector for an official lunch. They had a fruitful discussion.

Pacific Politics

The recent political changes in the strategic Pacific region have forced the regional countries to band together for mutual benefit. Thailand is one of the regional countries.

It is also a part of ASEAN, a ten Southeast Asian members organization, and maintains centrality in Indo-Pacific.

Earlier US’s key ally and member of the Quadrilateral alliance, Australian Foreign Minister, Marise Payne also visited Southeast Asian countries.

Though she didn’t visit Thailand her visits to Indonesia, Malaysia and Cambodia hold the key preference in Indo Pacific contest between US and China.

Recently, the US, Australia, and the UK signed a trilateral security pact named AUKUS to enhance pacific cooperation.
