Washington DC, 19 September 2022 (TDI): Ambassador of the United States to the UN, Linda Thomas-Greenfield highlighted US’s three core priorities for the 77th United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) Session.

The priorities include tackling global food insecurity, addressing global public health threats and defending the Charter, and reforming the UN.

Tackling Food Insecurity

United States at 77th UNGA Session would address food insecurity which is the non-availability of healthy and safe food.

Food insecurity destabilizes civilizations, exacerbate hunger and malnutrition, promotes migration and conflict, and wreaks havoc on the economy.

The year 2022 is projected to be the most food-insecure year on record worldwide. Food insecurity is fueled by rising energy costs, climate change, COVID-19, and worldwide conflicts.

The United States is dedicated to collaborating with the international community and the United Nations to address the causes of food insecurity, such as climate change, the COVID-19 pandemic, and armed conflict.

Addressing Public health Threats

The globe continues to struggle to eradicate the COVID-19 pandemic and other risks to global health.

At 77th UNGA Session, The United States would demonstrate diplomatic leadership to mobilize a worldwide response to the COVID-19 epidemic and its secondary effects.

Moreover, the United States also aims to bolster global biosecurity infrastructure to manage both the current crisis and future health-related threats.

The US is devoted to enhancing global health security so that the world can better prevent, identify, and respond to the next epidemic.

Maintaining the UN Charter

The United States at 77th UNGA Session would commit to the founding ideals of the United Nations Charter, which are to defend human rights and dignity.

The charter proclaimed the U.N.’s commitment to preserving international peace and security and promoting human rights.

As part of a broader vision for the future of the United Nations and the international system, the United States would reassert the significance of the UN Charter in international affairs.

Further, the US would use the opportunity to reaffirm its support for Ukraine’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence, as guaranteed by the United Nations Charter.

It would also address the negative consequences of this war and lay the groundwork for an eventual diplomatic process to end it.
