US extends condolences on Death of Esteemed Iraqi Shia Cleric

Washington, 4 September 2021 (TDI): United States Department of State Spokesman Edward Price stated that on the death of the religious Marja’ Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Saeed al-Hakim, the United States expresses its deepest sympathies to the Islamic community and believers of the teaching of Ahl al-Bayt and the great Marja’iyah. He stated that throughout the region and the globe, he was a beacon of peace, unity, and compassion. On this day, United States’ thoughts and prayers are with his family and loved ones.

One of Iraq’s leading Shia leaders, Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Mohammed Saeed al-Hakeem, has died at the age of 85 in the southern holy city of Najaf.

 Grand Ayatollah Sayyid Muhammad Sa’id al-Tabataba’i al-Hakim, an Iraqi Twelver Shia Marja and one of the four members of the Hawza of Najaf, was born on 1 February 1934, in Najaf, Iraq. He was one of Iraq’s most renowned Shia clerics after Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani.
