Islamabad, 3 February 2022 (TDI): The United States donated 4.7M Pfizer vaccines that arrived in Pakistan on the weekend.
This shipment is an addition to the last one of December 2021, whereas the first donation goes back to July of 2021. In total, the US has shipped 47.3M vaccines to Pakistan. Apart from the vaccine donations, the US has also supported Pakistan in other ways. For instance, they donated $528 million in assistance last December.
Ambassador of Pakistan to the US Asad Majeed Khan stated that this shipment with the other ones makes Pakistan the largest recipient of US vaccines some of Pfizer worldwide.
Pakistan nowadays registered 1 436 413 COVID-19 Cases, which means that the virus is still active. With this donation, the US gives more tools to Pakistan to fight against this virus.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, the US and Pakistan have worked to improve infection prevention and control it. For instance, both agreed to enhance good treatment of the patient, laboratory testing, disease monitoring, case tracking, and support to frontline healthcare workers.
The US donates the vaccines through the COVAX initiative, where many states collaborate to distribute vaccines to states that do not fabric or have COVID-19 vaccines.
