Washington D.C., 21 October 2021 (TDI): Wendy Ruth Sherman, the US Deputy Secretary of State, met with Shabana Basij-Rasikh, Co-Founder and President of the School of Leadership, Afghanistan (SOLA) today in Washington. They anticipated strengthening the educational facilities for Afghan women and girls.
Attributing the efforts of Shabana Basij-Rasikh as ‘inspiring,’ the US Deputy Secretary of State further added that Afghanistan’s future rests on the women’s and girls’ comprehensive involvement in all spheres of society, including business, education, and politics.
The US Senators from New Hampshire, Alaska, and Maine_ Jeanne Shaheen, Lisa Murkowski, and Susan Margaret Collins, respectively, also joined Deputy Sherman for the meeting.
The School of Leadership, Afghanistan (SOLA) is the first Afghan-led private boarding school for Afghan girls that aims to provide them with quality education and develops critical thinking skills, a sense of purpose, and respect for every individual.
The United States and Afghanistan share a long history of bilateral relations, having various common goals, particularly advancing peace, security, and economic development in Kabul. Over the last two decades, Afghanistan has been provided with a considerable share of global development funding to enhance its higher education facilities.
