US Approves $131M Maritime Surveillance Sale to India

Washington (TDI): The US State Department has approved a possible $131 million defense sale to India for maritime domain awareness equipment and software, amid growing tensions between Pakistan and India.

The proposed deal includes SeaVision software, remote analysis support, technical training, and logistics services. According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency (DSCA), the sale aims to enhance New Delhi’s maritime situational awareness and strengthen strategic capabilities.

The principal contractor in the deal will be Hawkeye 360, based in Herndon, Virginia.

DSCA said that the State Department has made a determination approving a deal of about $131 million. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency conveyed the required certification informing Congress of this possible sale today.

It further said that this proposed sale supports US foreign policy and national security objectives by strengthening relations with a major strategic partner in South Asia.

The agency added that the pact would not alter military balance in South Asia and would require to deploy US personnel to India.

The deal comes amid increased tensions between Pakistan and India after the Pahalgam attack on April 22, which killed 26 people.

New Delhi blamed Islamabad for the incident without presenting any proof.

The fallout has triggered an array of retaliatory diplomatic and strategic measures. India suspended the Indus Waters Treaty, cancelled visas for Pakistani nationals, and closed the Wagah-Attari border crossing.

Islamabad responded by expelling Indian diplomats, threatening to suspend the Simla Agreement, suspending visas for Indian citizens—excluding Sikh pilgrims—and closing the main crossing from its side.

Pakistan has denied involvement in the Pahalgam attack and offered to cooperate in a transparent probe.
