# US Announces Blockade of Iranian Ports After Islamabad Talks Collapse

**Washington (TDI):** The United States military has announced it will begin enforcing a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports starting Monday, following the failure of high-stakes negotiations held in Pakistan.

The talks ended without a breakthrough, with President Donald Trump placing the blame on Tehran’s unwillingness to abandon its nuclear program.

In a statement, US Central Command said the blockade would apply to vessels entering or leaving Iranian ports along the Arabian Gulf and Gulf of Oman. The operation is scheduled to begin at 1400 GMT. However, the US clarified that ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz to non-Iranian destinations would not be obstructed.

Earlier, Trump had signaled a more aggressive move via social media, suggesting that all maritime traffic through the strategic Strait of Hormuz could be halted. Later clarification indicated the focus would remain specifically on Iranian-linked routes. Trump said the objective was to ensure safe navigation in the waterway while preventing Iran from leveraging control over it.

The development comes after US Vice President JD Vance concluded talks with Iranian officials in Islamabad without reaching an agreement. The negotiations had raised hopes of ending a conflict that has already claimed thousands of lives and disrupted global markets since late February.

Pakistan, which mediated the dialogue, urged both sides to maintain a fragile two-week ceasefire reached earlier, warning that further escalation, especially at sea, could quickly undo the limited progress made.

Iran reacted sharply to Washington’s move. Officials in Tehran dismissed the blockade as unrealistic, with military leaders warning they retain full control over traffic in the Strait of Hormuz and would respond forcefully to any threats. Iranian representatives also accused the US of shifting demands at the last moment, claiming a deal had been close.

Meanwhile, oil markets responded immediately, with prices jumping roughly eight percent as concerns grew over potential disruptions to global energy supplies.

Tensions remain high across the wider region. In Lebanon, violence has continued despite ceasefire efforts, with rocket fire and airstrikes reported in recent days. Diplomatic efforts are ongoing, but the situation remains fragile, with fears that the conflict could widen further.

Despite the breakdown in talks, Washington has left the door open, though Trump indicated he is not particularly concerned about whether negotiations resume.
