UNHCR delivers core relief sets

Islamabad, 11 October 2021 (TDI): The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) provided 500 emergency tents and thousands of relief sets for earthquake-affected families. Today they deliver these core relief sets for the families to Balochistan’s provincial government, which occurs on 7 October. 


UNHCR hand over thousands of core relief sets to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority of Balochistan. This act was to help families who lost their homes in the earthquake. This earthquake heavily affected the Harnai district, Balochistan last week. 

The Government of Pakistan stated that hundreds of houses were destroyed, around two dozen people were killed, and hundreds were injured because of this earthquake.

UNHCR’s Representative – Noriko Yoshida, appreciates the generosity of the people of Balochistan, who hosted Afghan refugees for over 40 years. He further added they stand in solidarity with Balochistan’s people in this hard time. Norika said he is hoping that these emergency supplies can assist Pakistan’s efforts to support the affected households. As the winter is coming, this support will help them to recover from this natural disaster.

In Balochistan, UNHCR goals are; to support the host community and refugees, the agency’s projects continue to support livelihoods, clinics, and schools shared by the host community and refugees.
