# UK, US to Seal Nuclear Energy Deal During Trump’s Visit

**London (TDI):** Britain and the United States are set to sign a new agreement this week to expand cooperation on nuclear energy, coinciding with President Donald Trump’s state visit. The deal is designed to attract major investment for new nuclear projects across the UK.

The British government has recently stepped up efforts to grow its nuclear sector, pledging £14 billion ($19 billion) for the Sizewell C plant and supporting Rolls-Royce’s initiative to develop the country’s first small modular reactors (SMRs).

During Trump’s two-day stay in Britain starting Tuesday, he and Prime Minister Keir Starmer are expected to unveil details of the partnership. Among the announcements will be plans from US firm X-Energy and UK energy giant Centrica to build up to 12 advanced modular reactors in northeast England.

Another major project under discussion is an £11 billion ($15 billion) investment in advanced data centers powered by SMRs, to be developed at the site of the former Cottam coal plant in central England, according to media reports. The project involves US-based Holtec International, France’s EDF, and real estate partner Tritax.

“These major commitments are setting us firmly on the path toward a new era of nuclear power, one that will ultimately help cut household bills,” Starmer said Monday.

The partnership also includes regulatory cooperation. If a nuclear design passes safety checks in one country, the results could be used by the other, potentially reducing approval timelines from four years to just two.

Rolls-Royce announced it has begun the US regulatory process for its SMRs, opening the door for investment and job creation across the Atlantic. Meanwhile, UK-based Urenco is preparing to supply advanced low-enriched uranium to the American market.
