# UK Rolls Out Royal Pageantry for Trump’s Historic Second State Visit

**London (TDI):** US President Donald Trump formally began his unprecedented second state visit to Britain on Wednesday, greeted with royal pageantry at Windsor Castle as he prepared for key talks with King Charles and Prime Minister Keir Starmer.

The visit opened with the largest military ceremonial welcome for a foreign leader in decades, including gun salutes, a military flypast, and a lavish banquet hosted by the monarch. Trump and First Lady Melania Trump were met by Prince William and Princess Kate before joining King Charles and Queen Camilla in a carriage procession through the castle grounds, lined with over 1,300 British service personnel.

At Windsor, the Trumps viewed historical US-related items from the Royal Collection and laid a wreath at the tomb of Queen Elizabeth II, who hosted Trump on his first state visit in 2019. The day’s ceremonies culminated with a state banquet, where both the king and president were scheduled to deliver speeches.

Prime Minister Starmer is seeking to leverage Trump’s enthusiasm for the monarchy and Britain to advance trade, investment, and nuclear energy agreements, while also discussing Ukraine and tariffs. “This is a historic opportunity at a crucial time for global stability and security,” a spokesperson for Starmer said. Trump, for his part, described the trip as being “also on trade,” noting that both sides may look to refine existing deals.

Security was exceptionally tight, with 1,600 officers deployed across London to monitor protests organized by the “Stop the Trump Coalition.”

Trump will travel to Chequers for talks with Starmer, where geopolitics and economic ties will dominate the agenda. However, the visit also comes amid lingering controversy over the dismissal of UK ambassador Peter Mandelson for links to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, an issue that could prompt uncomfortable questions for both governments.
