# UK-Funded Five Years SEED Program in KP Comes to an End

**Peshawar (TDI): **Launched in 2020, the UK-funded Sustainable Energy and Economic Development (SEED) program in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has come to an end, with an official closing ceremony held on Wednesday.

British High Commissioner to Pakistan, Jane Marriott attended the ceremony in the provincial capital, after which she had an interaction with KP’s Chief Minister, at the CM House.

KP’s Minister for Local Government, Elections, and Rural Development, Arshad Ayub, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony.

In is address, Arshad Ayub recounted how initiatives taken under SEED are not embedded in the province’s governance system.

He said that the program has been an essential partner driving KP’s resilience in the face of challenges such as the COVID response and climate change events, particularly floods.

He specifically noted that the province is now ready to participate in forest carbon credit schemes, enabled over the past five years by UK-funded initiatives.

“These initiatives will enable Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to generate additional revenue from its forests and clean energy, while promoting conservation, sustainability, and green growth,” the Minister added.

Jane Marriot, while addressing the participants, appreciated the provincial government for making essential reforms happen.

“From greener growth to smarter planning, the SEED program has laid the foundations for a more resilient future,” she said.

“Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has seen the impact of climate change firsthand. And through SEED, we’ve shown what’s possible when strong partnerships focus on long-term solutions.” the High Commissioner added.

Later, at the CM House, CM Gandapur thanked the HC for UK’s support and the latter said that a similar program is expected to be launched soon for KP, now that SEED has come to an end.

Gandapur discussed the overall security situation of the province with the HC as well, noting “Peace in the region will only be possible once stability is achieved in Afghanistan.”
