Islamabad (TDI): Chief of the armed forces of Turkiye, General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu, met with Pakistan’s top defense leadership during his visit to the country. Regional security, Turkiye’s inclusion into the mutual defense arrangement between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, and two way defense cooperation came under discussion.

In meeting with the Pakistani Chief of Defense Forces (CDF), Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, at the General Headquarters (GHQ) on Friday, the two leaders held wide-ranging discussions on matters of mutual interest, including the prevailing regional and global security environment.

Prospects for further strengthening of bilateral defense and military cooperation also featured prominently in the talks. Both sides expressed satisfaction with the current trajectory of relations and underscored the importance of maintaining close coordination.

Field Marshal Munir highlighted the longstanding brotherly relationship between Pakistan and Türkiye, rooted in shared history, mutual trust, and strong people-to-people ties.

He appreciated the support and cooperation extended by the Turkish armed forces over the years and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to further strengthening military-to-military relations between the two countries.

General Bayraktaroğlu expressed gratitude for the warm reception and praised the professionalism of Pakistan’s armed forces. He reiterated Türkiye’s resolve to deepen defense cooperation with Pakistan, including collaboration in training, joint military exercises, and capacity-building initiatives.

The visit was described as a reflection of the enduring strategic partnership between Pakistan and Türkiye, as well as their shared commitment to regional peace, stability, and security; in an official statement.

Earlier, General Bayraktaroğlu also called on Defense Minister Khawaja Asif. During the meeting, both dignitaries reaffirmed the deep-rooted historical friendship and brotherly relations between Pakistan and Türkiye, anchored in shared history, faith, and mutual respect.

The Turkish Chief appreciated Pakistan’s role in promoting peace and stability in the region. He emphasized Türkiye’s desire for lasting regional stability, including peace in Afghanistan, and underscored the importance of dialogue and cooperation to avoid conflict and promote collective security.

Minister Asif expressed appreciation for the steadfast support and principled stance of the Turkish leadership and people, particularly during challenging times.

He reiterated Pakistan’s approach of pursuing peace and stability through engagement, restraint, and cooperation with regional partners. Both sides also discussed matters of mutual interest related to enhanced defense and security collaboration.
