Podgorica, 27 June 2023 (TDI): On Tuesday, Türkiye foreign minister Hakan Fidan attended the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP) leader’s summit during his two-day visit to Montenegro.
Turkish Minister Hakan Fidan’s engagements in Montenegro
Minister Fidan held a formal meeting with the Deputy Prime Minister of Montenegro and Bosniak Party Chair, Ervin Ibrahimovic, to strengthen the bilateral ties between their respective countries.
He extended his warmest congratulations to Ervin Ibrahimovic for the remarkable victory of the Bosniak Party, the sole political representation for Bosniaks in Montenegro, in the June 2023 elections of the country.
Sharing the same political goal, the Turkish Foreign Minister expressed Turkey’s firm support for the Bosniaks of Montenegro.
Ervin Ibrahimovic thanked Fidan for Türkiye’s continuous support in numerous areas and highlighted various sectors where cooperation can be increased, including in the fields of economy, culture, health, and education.
The two leaders noted that relations between the two countries are at an all-time high, in addition to their partnership in the NATO alliance. Foreign Minister Fidan affirmed Turkiye’s strong commitment to the peace, welfare, and stability-oriented initiatives of SEECP in the Balkan region.
He also attended the opening ceremony of the Turkish Chamber of Commerce in Podgorica on June 26. During his address to the ceremony, he expressed high expectations for the two countries to realize a trade volume of $250 million by the end of 2023.
Moreover, the Minister attended an Eid al-Adha event arranged by the Islamic Community in Montenegro and met with the community head, Rifat Fejzic.

In a display of unity with the Muslim community of Montenegro, President Jakov Milatovic, prime minister Dritan Abazovic of the country, along with the president of the parliament, Danijela Durovic, also participated in the gathering.
South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP)
The top leaders from the thirteen nations of the South East European (SEE) region participated in the summit, to foster peaceful relations between the neighbouring countries and the complete integration of the SEE into European and Euro-Atlantic structures.
Realizing the efforts of the South-East European Cooperation Process (SEECP), the Turkish Foreign Minister admired its indispensable role in resolving the issue of the region.
He affirmed Turkiye’s firm support for the peace, welfare, and stability-oriented initiatives of SEECP in the Balkan region.
On the margins of the SEECP summit, the Turkish minister also had a bilateral engagement with the president of Montenegro, discussing the means to strengthen their ties.
