WASHINGTON September 04, 2024 (TDI): Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced in a court filing on Tuesday that he intends to plead not guilty to the criminal charges outlined in a revised indictment, which accuses him of trying to overturn his 2020 election loss.
As the Republican candidate in the upcoming November 5 presidential election, Trump chose to waive his right to appear in court, instead allowing his attorneys to enter the plea on his behalf.
The updated indictment, made public last week by Special Counsel Jack Smith, maintains the same four charges from the previous indictment. These charges include allegations of attempting to defraud the United States, obstructing the congressional certification of the election, and depriving voters of a fair vote.
This revised indictment reflects changes made after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that Trump has broad immunity from criminal prosecution for actions taken in his official capacity as president.

Trump had previously entered a not guilty plea to the initial charges in federal court in Washington in August 2023.
Prosecutors and Trump’s legal team are scheduled to appear in court on Thursday to discuss the next steps following the Supreme Court’s ruling on immunity.
