# Trump Says US Launching Strong Response to Iran Over Apache Incident

**Washington (TDI):** The United States launched strikes against Iran on Tuesday after President Donald Trump said Tehran had shot down a US Apache helicopter in the Strait of Hormuz, further escalating already high tensions between the two countries.

Speaking to ABC News, Trump said, “They shot down a helicopter, and we are responding as we speak,” adding that the US response would be “very strong, very powerful.” He did not provide further details at the time.

Iranian state media reported that an attack targeted areas around Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, with additional reports of a projectile strike confirmed in Sirik. Iran’s Fars news agency said explosions were heard in eastern parts of Hormozgan province.

A US official, speaking on condition of anonymity, said the Apache helicopter was downed by a one-way Iranian drone attack, Reuters reported. Trump later confirmed that the two pilots involved were unharmed.

Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi did not directly comment on the helicopter incident but warned that the presence of foreign forces in the region increases the risk of accidents and unintended clashes, suggesting that their withdrawal would reduce tensions.

Iranian state media later quoted a military source denying any offensive air operations in the Strait of Hormuz over the past 24 hours, while also warning of a “decisive response” if further “hostility” occurs.

Trump, however, downplayed the incident in comments to The Wall Street Journal, calling it “not a big deal” and reiterating that the pilot was safe.

Despite the contrasting accounts, the episode has added fresh strain to already fragile efforts to de-escalate tensions in the region and revive broader diplomatic talks, including discussions linked to the Iran nuclear issue.

The US military’s Central Command said a US Army Apache went down near Oman’s coast around 3am local time during a patrol. A Navy surface drone later located and rescued the two crew members after about two hours. Officials said they were in stable condition, although no cause for the crash was immediately given.
