Trump Vows to Pause Migration from ‘All Third World Countries’

Washington (TDI): US President Donald Trump shared a string of sharply worded posts on Truth Social on Thursday, signalling what could become one of the most sweeping shifts in US immigration policy in decades.

Trump declared that he intends to “permanently pause” migration from “all third world countries” and begin what he described as “reverse migration” to remove certain immigrants already in the country.

Trump did not specify which nations fall under the “third world” label or explain how such a pause would be enforced. Even so, the remarks point toward a far-reaching crackdown that could impact people across Asia, Africa, Latin America, and the Caribbean, potentially reshaping refugee admissions, Green Card processes, and other legal pathways into the United States.

His comments came just a day after the US government abruptly stopped processing all immigration applications from Afghan nationals, following a shooting near the White House in which two National Guard members were critically injured. Trump later announced that one of the soldiers, Sarah Beckstrom, had died from her wounds, while the second remains in critical condition.

According to Trump, US immigration policies have “strained resources” and weakened American society. He argued that the country needs time to “recover,” and until that happens, he would bar new arrivals from countries he considers part of the developing world.

He went further, saying he would revoke citizenship from immigrants who “undermine domestic tranquillity,” and deport anyone he considers a public burden, a security threat, or “incompatible with Western civilisation.”

The president said the ultimate goal of these measures is to ensure that only people who “strengthen the nation” remain in the United States. He added that he would push for “reverse migration,” encouraging individuals who entered illegally or caused what he called “disruption” to return to their home countries.

Another proposal he highlighted was ending all federal benefits for non-citizens, including welfare, healthcare support, and other assistance programs, asserting that American taxpayers should not be responsible for those costs.
