# Trump, King Charles Strike Warm Tone at White House Dinner Amid Iran Differences

**Washington (TDI):** Britain’s King Charles III and US President Donald Trump struck a warm tone during a state dinner at the White House, celebrating the enduring ties between their countries despite ongoing tensions over Iran.

The two leaders praised the long-standing “special relationship” between the United Kingdom and the United States during Tuesday night’s event, even as differences linger over Washington’s stance on Tehran.

Speaking at the dinner, Trump made his first public remarks on Iran during the royal visit, claiming military success and asserting that Iran would not be allowed to develop nuclear weapons. He also suggested that King Charles shared his view, though there has been no confirmation of such alignment from the British side.

In his own remarks, King Charles focused on unity and cooperation, echoing themes from his earlier address to Congress. Without directly referencing the Iran conflict, he stressed the importance of strong alliances and collective action in a challenging global environment.

He highlighted the role of partnerships such as NATO and called for continued support for Ukraine in its ongoing war with Russia, underlining the need for a “just and lasting peace.”

The event, held in the White House’s East Room, brought together high-profile guests from business and sports, including Tim Cook, Jeff Bezos, Jensen Huang, and golfer Rory McIlroy, according to AFP.

Trump also praised the king’s earlier speech to Congress, joking about its bipartisan reception. King Charles, in that address, had urged the United States to stand firmly with its allies and referenced shared democratic traditions, including principles rooted in the Magna Carta.

Despite recent friction, particularly Trump’s criticism of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer over Iran, both sides used the visit to emphasize cooperation. Earlier in the day, Trump had welcomed the king and Queen Camilla with full ceremonial honours at the White House.

The visit comes at a sensitive time but has been marked by efforts on both sides to project unity. King Charles also condemned recent political violence, saying such acts would never succeed.

Following Washington, the royal couple is set to travel to New York, including a visit to the 9/11 memorial, before concluding their trip in Bermuda.
