Dili, 20 October 2021 (TDI): Timor Leste officially received the first batch of Pfizer vaccines and an ultra-low temperature refrigeration system. The consignment sent by the United States Government was received by the Minister of Health of Timor Leste, Odete Maria Freitas Belo.

The shipment contains 100,620 doses of Covid-19 vaccines. The transaction was made under the COVAX mechanism. The vaccines received under the program will be administered to people from 12 to 17 years of age. The citizens of 18 years and above are being inoculated by AstraZeneca’s or SinoVac’s vaccines.

The Pfizer vaccine will be preserved at the Autonomous Service of Medicines and Health Equipment (SAMES). UNICEF will also provide technical and financial support for this purpose. The World Health Organization assisted the operational procedures for the storage, transport, management, and application of vaccines.

Timor Leste in its vaccination drive against the Coronavirus is raising awareness in all the country’s municipalities. Several other countries have been helping Timor Leste in its vaccination drive.
