The United States announced Humanitarian Aid for Ethiopia

Washington, 14 October 2021 (TDI): The United States granted an additional $26million in Humanitarian aid to northern Ethiopia. Since the beginning of the crisis in northern Ethiopia, the USA has in total provided $663 million in aid.

According to the US secretary of State Antony J. Blinken, this US aid will enable its international humanitarian partners to help about 7 million needy people in Ethiopia. Among these 7 million, about 900,000 of them are facing famine while 48000 are refugees who have fled to Sudan. In this regard, Secretary Blinken continued, the aid will help in providing health care facilities, shelter, sanitation, food and, water.

The Secretary also highlighted the USA’s concerns over the worsening humanitarian situation in northern Ethiopia. He also underlined that timely, full, and safe humanitarian assistance is vital. Secretary Blinken also mentioned that without a viable political solution the crisis will continue to the worst.

Lastly, Secretary Blinken called on the international community to generously support the humanitarian aid and the crisis response in northern Ethiopia.
