Tajik Rep to UN Elected As President UNICEF Executive Board

Islamabad (TDI): Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations Jonibek Hikmat has been elected as the President of the Executive Board of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for 2025.

“We are thrilled to learn that the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Tajikistan to the United Nations, Jonibek Hikmat, was elected to the position of President of the Executive Board of UNICEF for 2025,” UNICEF Pakistan said on its LinkedIn handle.

This is the first time that a representative of Tajikistan has been elected to this prestigious position, it added.

UNICEF Executive Board

The Executive Board of UNICEF consists of 36 members. The organization reviews and evaluates the activities of UNICEF, while its Bureau comprises a president and four vice presidents.

The Bureau acts as a liaison between the UNICEF secretariat and the regional groups represented on the Executive Board, focusing on administrative, functional, and coordination matters. It facilitates decision negotiations during sessions to enhance the Board’s effectiveness.

UNICEF Pakistan also congratulated Hikmat on assuming the position and said it was looking forward to collaboration.
