Foreign Minister Tajikistan meets US Representative to Afghanistan

Washington DC, 30 September 2022 (TDI): The Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan, Sirojiddin Muhriddin met with the United States (US) Special Representative for Afghanistan, Thomas West on 27th September 2022.

US Special Representative for Afghanistan greeted the Foreign Minister of Tajikistan. He expressed that the US will sustain to build up its 30 years of partnership with Tajikistan.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss opportunities to develop constructive partnerships between the US and Tajikistan. The interlocutors discussed several issues of mutual interest.

They also conversed about the dilemma of international terrorism, extremism, and the troublesome condition of Afghanistan.

Statement of Thomas West

The Special Representative for Afghanistan West stated that the US is keen to develop constructive relations not only with Tajikistan but with all Central Asian States.

He also briefed about the minutes of the Ministerial meeting of C5+1 and the United States held at the UN. The agenda of the meeting was to build greater economic resilience among the countries of Central Asia.

The platform also stimulated all the stakeholders to work and talk about every matter. The subjects might also include human rights and the treatment of journalists.

Thomas West ensured the US intends to develop enduring cooperation with Tajikistan during the ongoing challenging scenario. He also appreciated ending up the border conflict between Tajikistan with Kyrgyzstan.

Statement of Sirojiddin Muhriddin

Foreign Minister Muhriddin appreciated the Special Representative for inviting him for a visit to the State Department. He recalled that the ongoing year marked the 30th anniversary of the diplomatic relations between Tajikistan and the US.

He stated that both countries enjoyed a fruitful partnership that has expanded within the period. The Foreign Minister elaborated on the significance of US cooperation with Tajikistan.

Both sides intended to negotiate the mutual areas of interest in which cooperation and partnership are highly appreciable and needed.

These particular spheres were defined by the Foreign Ministers that include Trade and economics, required projects in the field of education, agriculture, water supply, security, regional security issues, and particularly the issues related to Afghanistan.

At the end of the meeting, both parties cherished and anticipated continuous cooperation between Tajikistan and United States.
