Tajikistan-Azerbaijan Relations
The diplomatic relations between the two countries were established in May 1992 by exchanging notes. In September 2007, Azerbaijan opened its embassy in Dushanbe, and in March 2008, the Embassy of Tajikistan was established in Baku.
At the international level, Tajikistan and Azerbaijan are partner countries and support each other in multinational organizations such United Nations, OSCE (Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe), and CIS (Commonwealth of Independent States).
In March 2007, the President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, paid an official visit to the Republic of Tajikistan. Then in August of the same year, President Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan visited Azerbaijan. These state-level visits were a breakthrough in developing bilateral relations between the two countries.
Some of the main areas of economic cooperation between the two countries are ferrous metallurgy, agriculture, power, light industry, transport and communication, and the financial sector.
The bilateral relations between the two countries are being diversified, increasing inter-parliamentary and cultural humanitarian cooperation. The contact between higher education institutes of the two countries is also increasing.
