Sri Lankan Foreign Minister meets Canadian High Commissioner

Colombo, 9 October 2021 (TDI): Sri Lankan Foreign Minister, Gamini Lakshman Peiris met with Canada’s High Commissioner, David McKinnon at the Foreign Ministry. A number of ongoing bilateral collaboration areas were discussed. Sri Lanka’s recent global activities in Geneva and New York were also discussed by the Minister.

The Minister briefed the High Commissioner on the status of Sri Lanka’s immunization program. Along with the country’s gradual opening up. He praised Canada’s assistance to Sri Lanka’s post-pandemic recovery efforts. G.L. Peiris was briefed by the High Commissioner on Canada’s Post-Covid recovery and economic engagement with Sri Lanka. As well as other matters of mutual interest.

Furthermore, the Minister also told the High Commissioner on his address to the UN Human Rights Council. Along with the progress on human rights issues and recent domestic actions. The High Commissioner expressed gratitude to the Minister for the briefing and encouraged Sri Lanka to make progress on the Council’s concerns.
