Sri Lanka and Russia Reaffirms Strong Partnership

Moscow, 12 October 2021 (TDI): The 10th Round of Bilateral Political Consultations between Sri Lanka and Russia was held in Moscow. The consultations was attended by the Foreign Secretary of Sri Lanka, Jayanath Colombage, and the Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia, Igor Morgulov.

The Ambassador of Sri Lanka to Russia, Janitha Abeywickrema Liyanage, the Ambassador of Russia in Sri Lanka Yury B. Materiy also participated in the consultations. The two sides reviewed existing multifaceted relations between Sri Lanka and Russia. They discuss political, economic, and cultural spheres. In discussions, the two sides also referred to cooperation in defense, education, connectivity, and tourism.

Colombo and Moscow’s discussion also focused on regional and international issues of mutual interest. Both sides looked forward to celebrating the 65th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Sri Lanka and Russia in 2022.
