# Spain and Five Latin American Nations Condemn US Action in Venezuela

**Bogota (TDI):** The governments of Colombia, Spain, Brazil, Chile, Mexico, and Uruguay issued a joint statement on Sunday expressing “deep concern and rejection” of the unilateral US military operation in Venezuela, warning that such actions set a “dangerous precedent for peace and regional security” and put civilians at risk.

The statement, posted on the Colombian Foreign Ministry website, stressed that the crisis in Venezuela must be resolved exclusively through peaceful means, including dialogue, negotiation, and respect for the will of the Venezuelan people, without external interference and in accordance with international law.

It added that only an inclusive political process led by Venezuelans can produce a democratic and sustainable solution that safeguards human dignity.

The six nations also called on the UN Secretary-General and other relevant multilateral bodies to use their influence to help de-escalate tensions and protect regional peace.

Additionally, the joint statement voiced concern over any attempts at external control or appropriation of Venezuela’s natural or strategic resources, describing such moves as inconsistent with international law and threatening to regional political, economic, and social stability.

The statement follows Saturday’s US military operation in Caracas and other parts of Venezuela, which resulted in the seizure of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife.

In response, Venezuela’s Bolivarian National Armed Forces condemned what they called the “cowardly kidnapping” of Maduro.
