Seoul, 26 November 2021 (TDI): The President of Costa Rica, Carlos Alvarado Quesada is visiting South Korea. During his visit, he jointly hosted the Korea-Costa Rica Summit with the South Korean President, Moon Jae-in.

South Korean President Addressed the Summit

Whilst addressing the Korea-Costa Rica Summit, the South Korean President, Moon Jae-in welcomed his counterpart and said that his visit to Korea is important as it’s his first trip to Asia since inauguration.

He lauded the measures taken by the Costa Rican government to reform its laws, policies, and practices on becoming a member of the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Moreover, Costa Rica’s National Decarbonization Plan 2018-2050 is positively helping to achieve carbon neutrality, globally.

60th years of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Costa Rica

Moon Jae-in stressed that 2022 is particularly significant because it signifies the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between South Korea and Costa Rica. The two partners have common values like human rights, democracy, and peace. Furthermore, they have collaborated in multifarious domains for mutual benefit.

Korea is expanding trade in coffee and other agricultural products based on the Korea-Central America FTA. Besides, Costa Rica is the first country to embrace Korea’s Online E-Procurement System.

South Korean President highlighted that the two partners have jointly worked during the COVID-19 crisis by sharing experiences with epidemic prevention and control and providing anti-epidemic supplies.

He enunciated that, in this meeting, the two countries will upgrade bilateral relations to an action-oriented comprehensive partnership. Consequently, in the future, there will be an increased collaboration in the realms of science and technology, eco-friendly and digital fields, and infrastructure.
