Hanoi, 1 September 2021 (TDI): The Deputy Foreign Minister of Vietnam Nguyen Quoc Dung, and Secretary of Foreign Affairs of Laos, Phoxay Khaykhamphithoune co-chaired the sixth political consultation held on 31 August via videoconference.
The counterparts discussed the shared regional and international issues, taking measures to improve the bilateral relations. With COVID-19 precautions, both countries had high-level visits such as the General Secretary of Lao People`s Revolutionary Party’s visit to Vietnam in early August.
Besides defense and security cooperation, the two countries analyzed the two-way trade worth US$764.5 million despite the economic regression due to the pandemic. The increase in trade amounted to US$ 34.8 million.
The two deputies pledged to improve cultural relations, public diplomacy, and relations within the ASEAN region.
