# PM Shehbaz, Uzbek President Mirziyoyev Call for Expanded Cooperation

**Islamabad (TDI):** Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif welcomed President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan at the PM House on Thursday, marking a continuation of strengthened ties between the two countries.

An official welcome ceremony was held, followed by one-on-one talks and delegation-level discussions involving senior ministers and officials from both sides.

During the talks, the leaders highlighted the shared historical, religious, and cultural affinities between Pakistan and Uzbekistan. They reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral relations, with particular focus on trade, investment, regional connectivity, education, and cultural exchange, while also exchanging views on regional and global issues of mutual interest.

The two leaders expressed satisfaction over the growing high-level interactions and regular meetings of bilateral institutional mechanism in diverse sectors.

They also welcomed the operationalization of the High Level Strategic Consultative Council (HLSCC) which would enable effective implementation of the decisions taken by the leadership. The HLSCC mechanism was established during the visit of the Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif to Tashkent in February 2025. Both sides committed to make concerted efforts to implement the Roadmap agreed between the two sides in the follow up of Prime Minister’s visit to Tashkent.

On regional connectivity, the two leaders appreciated ongoing efforts to enhance road, rail, air and maritime cooperation. Both sides agreed that Uzbekistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan (UAP) Railway Project is the key driver of regional connectivity between Central Asia and Pakistani seaports.

Underlining the multidimensional cooperation between Pakistan and Uzbekistan, they agreed to further enhance mutually beneficial cooperation in the areas of mining, energy, defense, tourism, education, and culture. The two leaders also reiterated their commitment to enhance bilateral trade up to $2 billion.

After the official talks, the two leaders unveiled the plaques of Tashkent Street and Babur Park in Islamabad. At the Agreements and MoUs Signing and Exchange Ceremony, they signed the “Joint Declaration on the Outcomes of the State visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Islamic Republic of Pakistan”.

In addition, a total of 28 Agreements and MoUs in the fields of trade & investment, mining, health, information technology, agriculture, education, research, maritime cooperation, and sports were exchanged between the two sides.

In recognition of the exceptional contributions of the President Shavkat Mirziyoyev towards strengthening Pakistan-Uzbekistan bilateral relations and his efforts for promoting peace and development in the region, the Prime Minister conferred honorary Doctorate of Philosophy and Certificate of Honorary Professor of National University of Science and Technology upon His Excellency Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

In remarks to the media, the two leaders expressed their confidence that the signing of agreements and the Joint Declaration would open new avenues of cooperation, between Pakistan and Uzbekistan.

President Shavkat Mirziyoyev thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the hospitality extended to him during his stay in Pakistan. He also invited the Prime Minister for the next round of Pakistan-Uzbekistan High-Level Strategic Cooperation Council in Tashkent next year.
