Islamabad (TDI): Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday praised King Charles III for his lifelong dedication to public service and steadfast commitment to global causes.
Speaking at an event organized by the British High Commission to celebrate the birthday of Monarch, the Prime Minister said, “I have always admired King Charles for his boundless energy and dedication to issues that inspire millions across the United Kingdom, the Commonwealth, and beyond.”
He also expressed gratitude for the condolences extended by the UK government following the recent terrorist attacks in Islamabad and other parts of Pakistan. “Terrorism remains a serious threat to global peace and stability,” he remarked. “Pakistan, with its resilient people and valiant armed forces, remains determined to confront and defeat this menace in all its forms.”
Reflecting on personal interactions with the royal family, PM Shehbaz recalled attending the grand coronation ceremony of King Charles two years ago and receiving a warm telephone call from the Monarch last September to exchange views on various matters.
Highlighting the multifaceted partnership between Pakistan and the United Kingdom, he noted that this cooperation has flourished under the personal patronage and interest of the royal family. “We also celebrate the enduring friendship between our countries, strengthened by the contributions of around two million British citizens of Pakistani heritage who enrich all spheres of life in the UK,” he added.

The Prime Minister underscored the benefits of educational and cultural exchanges, noting that thousands of Pakistani students have studied in the UK while many more have gained from British Council programs in Pakistan. He highlighted a successful program previously run jointly by DFID and the Punjab government focusing on education, health, and skill development, which continues to expand across the country.
PM Shehbaz also recalled the numerous royal visits to Pakistan, including King Charles in 2006 and the historic visit of Queen Elizabeth. He extended a cordial invitation to King Charles and the Queen to visit Pakistan at the earliest convenience.
Commending the British High Commissioner Jane Marriott for her role in strengthening bilateral ties, he noted her contributions to reviving PIA flights to the United Kingdom, which now include services to Manchester with London flights expected soon.

Concluding the ceremony, the Prime Minister conveyed his prayers and best wishes for the health, happiness, and continued reign of King Charles. “As the candles on the birthday cake grow each year, we hope King Charles continues to inspire the world with his humour, humanity, and heart,” he said.
In her remarks, High Commissioner Jane Marriott highlighted the growing ties between Pakistan and the UK. The celebration concluded with PM Shehbaz and the High Commissioner jointly cutting the birthday cake in the presence of ministers, parliamentarians, and guests from diverse sectors.
