# Shehbaz to Attend UNGA, Hold Talks with Trump, Muslim Leaders Today

**New York (TDI):** Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to attend the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA) in New York today, where he is also scheduled to meet US President Donald Trump, along with leaders of major Muslim nations.

The prime minister, who arrived in New York on Monday with Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar and a team of senior ministers and officials, is leading Pakistan’s delegation to the annual session.

PM Shehbaz is scheduled to join a multilateral dialogue hosted by President Trump with Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Qatar, Egypt, Jordan, Turkiye and Indonesia. According to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt, the discussion will largely center on Israel’s war in Gaza.

Trump is reportedly intends to unveil a plan for Gaza’s post-war governance, asking Arab and Muslim nations to commit troops for security in the enclave and provide financial backing for reconstruction, paving the way for Israel’s withdrawal.

The Foreign Office confirmed that PM Shehbaz will attend the meeting of “select Islamic leaders” with Trump, where views will be exchanged on pressing issues of regional and global peace and security.

The meeting comes at a grim moment in Gaza, where Israel’s offensive has claimed more than 65,000 lives, left the entire population displaced, and triggered famine conditions. UN investigators and rights groups have described the situation as genocidal.

On the sidelines of the UNGA, PM Shehbaz is also expected to meet several world leaders. His speech to the Assembly will call for a resolution of long-standing disputes in Palestine and Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJK), while urging decisive action to end Palestinian suffering.

He will take part in multiple high-level events, including UN Security Council meetings, the Global Development Initiative forum, and a special summit on climate action.

Bilateral talks with global leaders and senior UN officials are also planned. “The Prime Minister will underscore Pakistan’s determination to work with all member states in upholding the UN Charter, preventing conflict, and fostering peace and prosperity in its capacity as a UNSC member,” the FO added.
