Secretary Blinken speaks with Qatar’s Deputy PM

Washington, D.C., 2 September 2021 (TDI): On Wednesday, The US Secretary of State Antony Blinken spoke with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani who is Qatar’s Deputy Prime Minister as well as the  Foreign Minister. Blinken expressed US gratitude for Qatar’s tremendous assistance for the safe eviction of evacuees, including the U.S. citizens from Afghanistan.

While speaking with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, Secretary Blinken praised Qatar for its role in consolidating bilateral relations with the United States that has resulted in a cordial and devoted partnership between the two states. He also admired Qatar for promoting regional security and discussed different ways to further improve the US-Qatar liaison.

The United States marked the complete withdrawal of its troops from Afghanistan on Tuesday, thus, concluding its longest war on terrorism. Earlier, Lloyd J Austin III, the US Defense Secretary mentioned that the United States has evacuated a total of more than 124,000 civilians from Afghanistan, including 6,000 American nationals.
