Secretary Blinken meets Secretary Stoltenberg at NATO’s summit

Brussels, 4 April 2024 (TDI): US Secretary Antony Blinken met with the NATO’s Secretary Gens Stoltenberg. During this visit, he will attend the 75th anniversary of the NATO summit on the 3rd of April 2024 in Belgium.

Secretary Antony Blinken was on a diplomatic tour from 1-5 April from Paris, France to Brussels, Belgium.

“NATO is stronger than ever before. I met with Secretary General Gens Stoltenberg in Brussels in advance of the 75th anniversary of the NATO Alliance. We will continue to work closely to address global challenges, including Russia’s aggression against Ukraine,” Blinken said.

Both sides discussed about strengthening their shared commitment with NATO, Indo-Pacific, and EU partnership. They also commented on strengthening the coalition with the new NATO allies Finland and Sweden.

Further, they said, “Tomorrow marks the 75th anniversary of the Alliance. We’re celebrating the first 75 years, but also looking ahead to the next 75. The Alliance is a defensive one that protects the territory of each member. We have each other’s backs and if one of us is the victim of aggression, all of us will be there to help.”

Moreover, they committed to maintaining peace and Security and preventing aggression as occurs nowadays. “That’s really what this alliance is about. But it requires constant renewal and effort; it doesn’t happen by itself.”

In addition, they said we are prepared for the summit. We ensure everyone plays a role in sustaining peace and stability. As the alliance has the ability and capacity to compete with the problems.

At last, he said, as Secretary Stoltenberg said, the alliance helps Ukraine against Russian aggression.

Remarks of Secretary Stoltenberg

According to sources, he said, in 2014 NATO’s agenda was to invest 2% of GDP in defense. At that time two third members agreed and we wanted more allies in NATO.

Lastly, we met with our Asia-Pacific partners. The Ukraine war demonstrates how European security moderated with the security of Asia and Africa. As China, Iran, and the DPRK support Russia, this is not a regional issue but a global issue, he added.
