SCO Foreign Ministers Discuss Priority Areas as the Council Meets

Tianjin (TDI): A regular meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) member states was held in China, as the country is the rotating president of the SCO for 2024-25.

It was attended by the Foreign Ministers of Belarus, India, Iran, Kazakhstan, China, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Russia, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, as well as the General Secretary of SCO and the Director of the Executive Committee of the Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure (RATS).

During the meeting, views were exchanged on priority areas of cooperation between the member states.

The current state and prospects of development in the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian spheres, as well as key aspects of improving the Organization’s effectiveness were discussed.

Particular attention was paid to the upcoming meeting of the Council of Heads of Member States, scheduled for late August. Report of the Secretary-General on the work of the Secretariat was also has  approved during the meeting.

At the end of the event, Secretary-General Nurlan and Chinese Foreign Minister held a joint press conference.
