Bujumbura, 2 July 2022 (TDI): Saudi Arabia’s Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Waleed Al Khuraiji, arrived in Burundi on Friday. The Saudi Minister was received by the President of Burundi, Evariste Ndayishimiye on his official visit.

During the meeting between the two sides, they discussed the friendship between the two countries and their people.

They discussed ways to strengthen aspects of bilateral cooperation in various fields. Thus, in addition to regional and international developments and efforts made in their regard.

On behalf of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, the Deputy Foreign Minister participated yesterday in the celebration of the 60th anniversary of the independence of the Republic of Burundi.

During the ceremony, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs conveyed congratulations and greetings from the leadership of Saudi Arabia and extended warm wishes to the President of the Republic of Burundi.

Therefore, on the occasion of the anniversary of Independence, he wished the President all the success and prosperity to the government. As well as to the people of the Republic of Burundi.

Recent developments in Saudi Arabia-Burundi relations

In May 2022, a Saudi delegation led by the Adviser at the Royal Court, Ahmed bin Abdulaziz Kattan, visited Burundi.

During this visit, the delegation met Burundi’s President, the meeting discussed bilateral relations between the two countries.

Burundi’s President expressed his country’s full support for the Saudi Kingdom’s bid to host the Expo 2030 in Riyadh.

During the same month, Saudi Arabia’s King Salman received a written message from Burundi’s President.

Specifically, Saudi Arabia’s Foreign Minister, Prince Faisal bin Farhan Al Saud received the message during a meeting with his Burundi counterpart, Albert Shingiro in Riyadh.

The letter concerned bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to support and enhance them in various fields. Together with various regional and international issues of common interest.

The Kingdom’s Foreign Ministry previously highlighted also that Saudi Foreign Minister made a phone call to Shingiro in February this year.
