# Saudi Arabia Proposes Regional Non-Aggression Deal with Iran: Report

**Riyadh (TDI):** Saudi Arabia has floated the idea of a Middle East non-aggression pact with Iran, as regional powers explore ways to stabilise tensions following the end of the recent US-Israel war with Tehran, according to the Financial Times.

The proposal, which has not been officially confirmed by Riyadh, is said to be part of broader diplomatic efforts to reduce the risk of renewed conflict in the region. Diplomatic sources cited by the FT suggest the idea draws inspiration from the 1975 Helsinki Accords, a Cold War-era framework designed to ease tensions and promote cooperation between rival blocs.

Under the reported concept, countries in the Middle East would commit to avoiding military confrontation and strengthening political dialogue, with the aim of building a more structured security environment across the region.

European governments and EU institutions are said to be supportive of the initiative, encouraging Gulf states to consider it as a potential framework for preventing future escalation and offering Iran limited security assurances in exchange for restraint.

The discussions come amid continued concern among Gulf states over Iran’s regional role, even after the conclusion of the recent conflict. Regional governments reportedly fear it could adopt a more aggressive posture, particularly given its missile and drone capabilities and its involvement in conflicts across Gaza, Lebanon, Syria, and other theatres.

According to the report, Saudi Arabia is also deepening coordination with several regional partners, including Pakistan, Türkiye, and Egypt, as part of a wider shift toward defense and economic alignment in the post-conflict landscape. Pakistan has reportedly suggested expanding its existing defense cooperation with Riyadh to include Qatar and Türkiye, signalling a broader push toward multilateral security arrangements, the paper added.

The proposal remains at a conceptual stage, and no formal agreement or framework has yet been announced. However, the discussions reflect growing interest among regional powers in establishing new mechanisms to manage long-standing rivalries and reduce the risk of direct confrontation in an increasingly volatile Middle East.
