Dhaka, 23 July 2022 (TDI): Ambassador of Saudi Arabia, Essa Yousef Essa Alduhailan, paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Foreign Minister, A.K. Abdul Momen, on Thursday.

The Ambassador updated the Foreign Minister about the investment initiative Saudi investors took in Bangladesh. He added that Saudi investors are keen to invest in Bangladesh.

He underscored that to facilitate additional investment from Saudi Arabia to Bangladesh, cooperative and sincere efforts from both sides are essential.

Foreign Minister complimented the Ambassador for his dynamic involvement in building relations between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia.

The Foreign Minister thanked the political and humanitarian support of the government of Saudi Arabia for the Rohingyas.

The Ambassador extended gratitude to the government of Bangladesh for offering support to Saudi Arabia on various international platforms.

Bangladesh-Saudia Arabia Diplomatic Ties 

The diplomatic ties between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia were established in 1975. Since then, Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia have maintained extended, cordial friendship marked by mutual understanding and profound brotherhood.

State-level visits from both states have helped to strengthen their bilateral ties. Cooperation in investment, trade, investment, personnel, defense, education, and culture has strengthened their existing relations.

Due to Bangladesh’s tremendous economic growth in the last 50 years, Saudi Arabia perceives Bangladesh as an attractive investment destination.

Saudi Arabia is the largest and most valued destination for the Bangladesh workforce, contributing significantly to the national development of both countries. The flow of remittance from Saudi Arabia to Bangladesh is about 30% of total remittance.

Saudi Arabia gives financial aid and loans for the development of Bangladesh’s infrastructure, including roads, railways, irrigation, and hospitals.

Saudi Arabia has also assisted Bangladesh with expanding industrial, educational, scientific, and technological expertise and the growth of communication infrastructure.

In addition, the aid provided by Saudia Arabia significantly impacts agriculture and flood management in Bangladesh.

The relationship between two states has evolved from single-dimension to multi-dimensional cooperation over time.
