Muscat, 11 May 2022 (TDI): The Foreign Minister of Russia, Sergey Lavrov reached the Sultanate of Oman today. He along with his delegation was received by the Sultan of Oman, Haitham bin Tariq Al Said.
On the one-day visit, Sergey Lavrov visited the Al Barakah Palace in the capital of Oman. During a meeting, the Sultan of Oman and the Russian Foreign Minister discussed the situation in the Russia-Ukraine war.

Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov also met Fahd bin Mahmoud Al-Said, the Sultanate of Oman’s Deputy Prime Minister for the Council of Ministers. They looked at worldwide efforts to bring their viewpoints closer together on all topics in a way that benefits everyone.
The Russian Minister went on to say that Russia wants to improve commercial relations with Oman to increase the amount of trade and satisfy both sides’ goals.
We decided to expand a package of bilateral agreements with the Omani side, including mutual visa exemption for nationals of the two countries and a cooperation agreement between the Russian Museum and the Omani National Museum.
He further added that Russia recognizes the Sultanate of Oman’s contribution to settling the Syrian crisis, and feels that the time has come for Syria to rejoin the League of Arab States. Moreover, Oman is capable of making a significant contribution in this regard.
The meeting between the Foreign Minister of Oman, Badr Albusaidi, and his Russian counterpart resulted in negotiation. Sergey Lavrov also appreciated Oman’s contribution to regional security in the Persian Gulf.

Likewise, he lauded Muscat’s balanced stance that allows it to act as a vital platform for a variety of diplomatic endeavors. The Foreign Minister of Oman also tweeted about his delight to see Minister Sergey.
He stated that “We encourage all parties involved in the Ukrainian situation to make every effort to restore peace.”
