# Russia Welcomes US-Iran Ceasefire, Calls for Sustained Diplomacy & Lasting Peace

**Moscow (TDI):** Russia has welcomed a newly reached agreement to cease military operations in the Middle East, describing it as a critical step toward de-escalation after a prolonged and destructive conflict.

Speaking on Wednesday, Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry, underscored Moscow’s support for the arrangement involving Russia, the United States, and Iran.

Zakharova emphasized that Russia had consistently advocated for a political and diplomatic resolution since the early days of the conflict, which she described as stemming from tensions linked to the United States and Israel alliance.

According to her, Moscow worked persistently to shift the trajectory away from military confrontation toward dialogue, including through initiatives at the United Nations Security Council.

“From the outset, our priority has been to end hostilities and create space for meaningful negotiations,” Zakharova said, highlighting Russia’s ongoing engagement with international partners.

She noted that these efforts were carried out in coordination with “responsible members of the international community,” reflecting a broader multilateral push to stabilize the region.

A notable element of the agreement, she added, was the recognition of Islamabad for its “positive and constructive mediating role.” This acknowledgment points to the growing diplomatic influence of regional actors in facilitating dialogue among major powers and conflict parties.

Despite the breakthrough, Zakharova cautioned that significant work remains. She stressed that further negotiations would be necessary to achieve a comprehensive and lasting settlement.

“This process must be grounded in respect for the legitimate rights and interests of all states in the region,” she said, signaling Moscow’s insistence on an inclusive framework for peace.

Russia also expressed hope that the ceasefire would lay the foundation for preventing future crises. Zakharova described the recent hostilities as “man-made and entirely unprovoked,” adding that the international community must now focus on building mechanisms to ensure long-term stability and security.

Moscow, she affirmed, intends to remain actively involved in these efforts. As diplomatic channels reopen, the success of the ceasefire will likely depend on sustained cooperation among global and regional stakeholders, as well as a shared commitment to resolving underlying tensions that have long fueled instability in the Middle East.
