##### Background:**

Member of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization [signed off](https://www.nato.int/cps/en/natohq/news_197737.htm) an accession protocol for the Nordic Countries to join NATO.

NATO Ambassadors signed this protocol at NATO headquarters on 5th July 2022. The Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto and Swedish Foreign Minister Ann Linde were also present. This move came after Turkiye lifted its veto against including these countries in NATO.

US Secretary of State called it a historic day for transatlantic security.

“NATO doors remain open and we are stronger together,” he tweeted.
