Astana, 5 June 2023 (TDI): Sheik Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, Amir of the State of Qatar, is set to participate in the upcoming Astana International Forum.
Astana and Kazakhstan are preparing to host the highly anticipated Astana International Forum (AIF) on June 8-9.
The forum’s objectives, key themes, and notable speakers highlight its potential to address global challenges and promote international cooperation.
According to the organizing committee of the Astana International Forum, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the Amir of the State of Qatar, will be participating in the event.
It’s worth noting that Qatar is a significant economic partner of Kazakhstan in the Arab world, and the relationship between the two countries has grown substantially in recent years. This is evident through the frequent meetings between Kazakhstan and Qatar leaders.
President Tokayev will address the plenary session of the Astana International Forum. The forum theme, ‘Tackling challenges through dialogue: Towards cooperation, development, and progress,’ is essential, as participants will discuss climate change, food shortage, and energy security. The world must come together to find solutions to these pressing issues and ensure a sustainable future for all.
President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s visit to Doha in June 2022 and the Amir of Qatar’s state visit to Astana in October have helped to strengthen the relationship between the two countries. These close contacts have positively impacted the development of bilateral trade and economic partnerships.
The bilateral trade turnover increased by 17.7 times during the first quarter of 2023 alone. Additionally, the volume of Qatari investment in Kazakhstan has tripled based on the outcomes of 2022. These developments bode well for the future of the two nations’ relationship.
Qatar’s investment in Kazakhstan has been remarkable, attracting a substantial amount of capital totaling $56.6 million from 2005 to 2022, with a notable increase of $13.1 million in 2022 alone, which is three times higher than the investment in 2021. Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov attended the Qatar Economic Forum and had productive talks with the Prime Minister-Foreign Minister of Qatar.
Both parties have clearly demonstrated their strong commitment to enhancing their collaboration, and it is encouraging to note their plan to establish a joint investment forum and increase volume. This positive development signifies a promising outlook for the future of their relationship.
