# Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs Receives Call from Afghan Counterpart

**Doha (TDI):** Qatar’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz bin Saleh Al Khulaifi, received a call from Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Acting Foreign Minister of Afghanistan’s de facto government, on Friday, in a diplomatic effort tied to ongoing border tensions and clashes with Pakistan.

The two officials discussed ways to de-escalate rising tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, and to support broader security and stability in the region.

The conversation took place as clashes along the shared border have intensified, with increased cross-border attacks and military responses raising fears of a wider confrontation.

Al Khulaifi reaffirmed Qatar’s strong support for peaceful efforts to resolve disputes and its commitment to strengthening the foundations of peace at both the regional and international levels.

He framed the discussion as part of Doha’s ongoing diplomatic outreach aimed at encouraging negotiation and restraint among all parties involved.

Earlier on the same day, Al Khulaifi held a separate call with Pakistan’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, where they discussed similar efforts to reduce tensions and promote stability between Islamabad and Kabul.

The outreach comes as multiple regional actors, including Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Iran, have been working to encourage dialogue and avoid further escalation along the volatile border.

Qatar has emphasized mediation and peaceful negotiation, highlighting the importance of diplomacy in managing the current situation.

While details of follow-up steps were not immediately shared, the phone exchange between Al Khulaifi and the Afghan acting foreign minister underlines growing regional efforts to engage both sides diplomatically.
