Qatar condemns attack in Afghanistan

-

Doha, 9 October 2021 (TDI): The State of Qatar expressed its strong condemnation of an explosion that targeted a mosque in Kunduz in the Northeast of Afghanistan.

An ISIS suicide bomber reportedly detonated an explosive vest as worshippers gathered inside the mosque for Friday prayers. According to official information, bodies were seen scattered inside the Said Abad mosque, used by the minority Shia Muslim community.

Afterward, Qatar News Agency reported the official declaration in regard to the attack and its victims. Like Qatar, other countries in the region have expressed their condemnation of the events. For instance, this morning, the President of Iran expressed his rejection in a public statement.

Similarly, Jordan condemned the attacks by the Houthi militia in Saudi Arabia. These were also not the first attacks to be carried out in the Gulf country.

Both attacks happened at a relatively similar and coordinated time, and the Afghan authorities have claimed responsibility for the Islamic State.
