Qatar agrees to cooperate with global community

New York, 8 October 2021 (TDI): The State of Qatar has affirmed that it will remain a platform for cooperation between all countries. Sheikha Alia Ahmed bin Saif Al-Thani expressed her desire to extend humanitarian work.

The 76th session of the Economic and Financial Committee addressed “Crisis, Resilience, and Recovery – Accelerating Progress towards the 2030 Agenda.” The country pointed out its measures to confront the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic. In this way, the State ensured the health and safety of all citizens and residents with innovative methods to help other countries in their learning process.

The government made extraordinary contributions to international development, including amounts that exceeded USD140 million. It has signed a USD10 million basic contribution agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO). The purpose was to support the work program to combat the COVID-19 in the countries most in need.

Likewise, the statement indicated the country’s contribution of USD20 million multi-year to support the UNDP Accelerator Lab. It is a founding investor for these laboratories. The work has shown a vital impact on the lives of many around the world. Moreover, Al-Thani remarked on the contribution of Qatar Airways as an active role in transporting humanitarian products.

However, in this session of the General Assembly, the country has been very active. Previously, it opened the Legal Committee debate and condemned Israeli violations of international law at the Human Rights Council.

Positively, the statement expressed its aspiration to open the UN House in Doha. It will house many UN bodies, including those working in the humanitarian and development fields.
