Prime Minister Kakar meets Azerbaijan President Aliyev

Tashkent, 10 November 2023 (TDI): Interim Prime Minister, Anwar-Ul-Haq Kakar, on Thursday had a constructive interaction with the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, on the sidelines of the 16th Economic Cooperation Organization Summit being held in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

During the meeting at the Tashkent Convention Center, both leaders discussed bilateral cooperation and addressed shared political issues. They also talked about recent regional and global developments.

According to the press release from Prime Minister Office, the two leaders reviewed the progress in bilateral relations specifically in the domains of defense, trade, and energy.

Caretaker Premier welcomed the announcement of the direct flight operations of Azerbaijan Airline (AZAL) to Pakistan.

He added that this flight operation would be a positive development in terms of people to people exchanges and help in advancing the two-way business and tourism.

Both leaders engaged in discussion of common challenges including Islamophobia, climate change, and the critical role of ECO to promote regional cooperation and collective prosperity.

Prime Minister Kakar and President Aliyev talked about global and regional developments including the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, which is experiencing brutal aggression from Israel.

India’s persistent atrocities in Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir (IIOJ&K) were also discussed during the interaction.

Prime Minister Kakar reaffirmed President Aliyev on Pakistan’s unwavering support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, especially with respect to Karabagh.

The 16th summit of the Economic Cooperation Organization was being held in Tashkent, the Capital city of Uzbekistan from 8th to 9th November 2023.

The two-day summit was centered around ECO vision 2025 and to enhance regional cooperation among member states.

Later that day the Prime Minister returned to Islamabad following successful participation in the 16th ECO Summit and concluding his two-day official visit.
