# President Zelenskyy visits allies in Europe

**London, 15 May 2023 (TDI)**: Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy visited Germany on the 14th of May and held talks with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. He also met with the German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

He also visited France on the same day to meet President Emmanuel Macron and is currently visiting the United Kingdom to hold talks with Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.

President Zelenskyy thanked the Chancellor, President, and the German people for the powerful defense package and their leadership in supporting Ukraine against what he called Russian terror.

On 13 May, the German foreign office [announced](https://twitter.com/GermanyDiplo/status/1657382428099371015) the biggest defense package for Ukraine since the start of the war between Russia and Ukraine. The package includes artillery, air defense, armored vehicles, and military engineering capabilities worth over 2.7 million euros.

The German Chancellor said that President Zelenskyy’s visit to Berlin had sent a firm message to Russia that the Ukraine war has brought Europe closer and that Germany won’t let down Ukraine in the face of what he referred to as Russian aggression.

He highlighted that Germany has provided financial, Political, and military support and would continue to do so as long as it is necessary.

President Zelenskyy also thanked French President Emmanuel Macron for supporting the Ukrainian war effort.

In a[ joint statement](https://www.elysee.fr/en/emmanuel-macron/2023/05/15/joint-declaration-of-france-and-ukraine), President Zelenskyy and Emmanuel Macron condemned Russian aggression against Ukraine. Both called on Russia to withdraw within its internationally recognized borders, specifically from the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant (ZNPP). The French President said that France remains committed to Ukraine’s independence, sovereignty, and territorial integrity.

The French President said that France will keep providing political, military, financial, and humanitarian support to Ukraine. By protecting the European continent, France, Ukraine, and other partners are defending the rules-based international Europe.

Prime Minister Rishi Sunak welcomed President Zelenskyy and tweeted that the United Kingdom stays alongside Ukraine.

The United Kingdom promised to attack drones and missiles on Ukraine during the visit. Previously the UK confirmed that it supplied long-range missiles to Ukraine earlier this month.

President Zelenskyy’s European tour came as the possibility of a Ukrainian counteroffensive looms.
