Islamabad (TDI): President Asif Ali Zardari has emphasized the urgent need for constructing climate-resilient infrastructure to combat the impacts of climate change.

In a message on National Resilience Day, he called for enhanced public education on disaster risk management and the active involvement of communities to foster a culture of preparedness.

Reflecting on the devastating earthquake of October 8, 2005, which resulted in significant loss of life and widespread destruction, the president remarked, “The destruction it brought to our cities and villages remains etched in our memory. However, amid this catastrophe, our nation displayed an unparalleled spirit of resilience and unity, generously helping those affected.”

He extended his heartfelt gratitude to the international community, friendly nations, and civil society organizations for their invaluable support in the aftermath of the earthquake.

He acknowledged that this solidarity not only facilitated the rebuilding of essential infrastructure, such as roads, education, and healthcare but also provided hope to the victims, enabling them to restore their lives.

The president highlighted the increasing vulnerability of Pakistan to natural disasters due to the looming threat of climate change, with rising temperatures and extreme weather events such as floods, droughts, and heatwaves posing significant risks.
