The Portuguese Prime Minister addresses the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO in Lisbon

Lisbon, 11 October 2021 (TDI): Antonio Costa, the Prime Minister of Portugal addressed the Parliamentary Assembly of North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) in Lisbon, Portugal. He emphasized the role of NATO and the Atlantic Alliance.

Lisbon is hosting the 67th annual session of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. The session started on 8 October 2021 and will end today, on 11 October 2021. The government officials of Portugal, the NATO officials, and legislators as well as defense experts from the 30 member states of NATO are attending the session in Lisbon.

 

 

The Portuguese Prime Minister in his address said that NATO is not just only the military alliance but it is a community of values. It is is working to promote democracy and human rights in the world. He expressed that no alliance can replace NATO. NATO has transformed its objectives and strategies.

He further stated that NATO should be united and strong for establishing peace. Antonio Costa also talked about TransAtlantic relations in his address to the Parliamentary Assembly of NATO. He also talked about the strategic depth of Portugal. Atlantic plays an important role in creating that strategic depth which is crucial for the security of Portugal. He said that the strategic depth is the reason why the Transatlantic relationship is the priority of Portugal.
