New York, 14 July 2022 (TDI): The Minister for Planning, Development, and Special initiatives of Pakistan, Ahsan Iqbal addressed a press conference at the United Nations (UN). The press conference took place on the sidelines of the 2022 High-Level Political Forum (HLPF).

Remarks by the Minister
Minister Iqbal called for an emergency action plan to tackle the global challenges of food insecurity as well as poverty.
He highlighted that the spirit of multi-nationalism is the need of the hour. Therefore, Iqbal assured Pakistan’s support of the UN Secretary General’s initiative of a global crisis response group that is assisting vulnerable countries.
More to this, the Minister expressed hope with regards to the HLPF forum helping in mobilizing important practical action. Thus, preventing famine and hunger among the poorest countries.
Particularly, there is a need for collective action in minimizing the cost of economic default and political crisis.
The Minister also drew special attention to the vulnerable and conflict-driven regions of the world.
Minister Iqbal, therefore, pointed out that the most grievous situation is the people who are under illegal occupation. Specifically, the people of Indian Illegally Occupied Jammu and Kashmir.

Noteworthy, Pakistani Prime Minister, Shehbaz Sharif also spoke on Kashmir Martyrs’ Day and stated that it is a reminder of the sacrifices Kashmiris have rendered for their inalienable and UN-sanctioned right to self-determination.
In addition, Minister Iqbal emphasized the need for early resolution of the dispute. He said the dream of durable peace in South Asia will remain elusive until the resolution of the Kashmir dispute.
Specifically, in line with the relevant UN resolutions and aspirations of the people of Kashmir. The Minister further said that the world is passing through a major economic crisis. Also that there is a record of global inflation.
As well as the projects of economic growth at the global level have been disrupted following the Ukraine and Russia war.
Most importantly, he stated that there is a requirement for collective action to minimize the cost of economic default.
